What are dental crowns?
Also known as ‘caps’, crowns are fillings that are used to stabilise existing teeth.
Dental crowns fit over the top of your existing tooth to restore the structure and function of damaged, decayed or chipped teeth.
Crowns can also be used to aesthetically improve the appearance of damaged teeth, allowing them to look, feel and replicate a natural tooth.
Dental bridges – When are they used?
A bridge is a special device that anchors to existing teeth to address poorly spaced or missing teeth and potential jaw or bite misalignment.
When your dentist uses a bridge to restore your smile, replacement teeth will be fabricated and inserted into the mouth. This helps to stabilise pressure on your teeth and reduce potential issues.
If a tooth is lost due to dental decay or gum disease, it is likely that other surrounding teeth will also be affected. Surrounding teeth may deteriorate at a faster rate due to increased pressure and strain, for example when chewing. Bridges can offer an effective solution to this problem.
